Homoeopathy is both a philosophy and an alternative medical practice. The theory that “like cures like” is translated into the administration of exceedingly minute quantities of substances believed to cause disease as a method of curing the disease. The substances are calledremedies and usually consist of extensive dilutions of various plant and/or animal organ extracts. The exceedingly small quantities used for treatment are prepared by serial dilution of extracts through the violent shaking of a container of diluted extract.

Homoeopathy is a highly systematized method of medical therapeutics and clinical evaluation. The term Homoeopathy is derived from the Greek words Homoeos, meaning “similar,” and pathos, meaning “suffering.” The medicines used in this system of therapeutics are chosen according to the Law of Similars (the concept of like curing like), a fundamental Homoeopathic principle based on the observed relationship between a medicine’s ability to produce a specific constellation of signs and symptoms in a healthy individual and the same medicine’s ability to cure a sick patient with similar signs and symptoms.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. this is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.

More than 3,500 years, acupuncture has been providing relief to people around the world. Originally developed and practiced in China, this soothing therapy is today embraced by patients who seek to alleviate symptoms caused by ailments that range from arthritis to migraines to the aftereffects of chemotherapy.

Acupuncture draws on the belief that an energy called Qi (pronounced chee) circulates through our bodies from the top of our head to the soles of our feet. When we experience good health, this energy flows unobstructed along pathways in the body called meridians. Each meridian is believed to be connected to a specific organ system, and when an energy flow is disrupted by a disease or an injury, illness or pain occurs. Acupuncture is then used to balance the flow of Qi and stimulate our body’s natural ability to heal.

Naturopathy uses a combination of therapies, including acupuncture, counseling, exercise therapy, botanicals, hydrotherapy, nutrition, physical therapies (eg, heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, massage), guided imagery, and stress management. Naturopathic medicine is a science-based tradition that promotes wellness by identifying the unique aspects of each patient and then employing non-toxic natural therapies to restore his or her physiological, psychological, and structural balance.

Naturopathic physicians understand the art of healing, which is more than dispensing an herbal remedy or nutritional supplement. To understand the context of a patient's illness, the physician must take the time to listen to the patient's story. Effective naturopathic treatment requires patience and good communication. Most patients know what is wrong and what needs to be done, but they don't know how to translate this into an action plan. The naturopathic physician can translate the patient's story and assign priorities among the several options that may emerge. They also take time to answer the patient's questions.
